I have never been to India and I am not of Indian heritage, but I was raised in a desi community here in the States. <br /><br />What I admired about Mughal-e-Azam, in addition to the spectacular plotlines about love and power, is the film's thorough grounding in classical Mughal history and culture, its total Indianness, for lack of a better word. Nowadays many Bollywood films seem like third or fourth-rate Western movies instead of first-rate Indian film. <br /><br />Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya has a special meaning for me as well.
